Eragon, Christopher Paolini
I thought I’d start my blog with a book very close to my heart. Eragon by Christopher Paolini. This is a book about a boy named Eragon who lives in a small town called Carvahall in a fantasy land called Alagaësia. He is an orphan that lives with his cousin and uncle on a farm. He is out hunting one day in a ominous forest called the Shrine and he comes across a blue rock. Little does he know, this rock will change his life forever. A few days later the rock hatches revealing a baby dragon which marks him as a mystical Dragon Rider with amazing powers.
Of course you can’t have a fantasy book without a villain! The king of this land is looking for the dragon and sends some fairly horrible creatures to go and get it. Along the way Eragon meets some people who help him along the way such as Aria, a beautiful but fierce Elf and the storyteller Brom who has a hidden past.
Now for the technical bit! This book was written by Christopher Paolini when he was just 16. He wanted to write a book that he himself would want to read and the result was a book that millions of people have read! It is an amazing book that portrays emotions amazingly and the world seems almost real. You learn to love the characters and you don’t want it to end! I would recommend it to anyone from pre-teen up. There is a lot of fight scenes and a good amount of violence but nothing REALLY heavy and there’s no unsuitable content or anything like that so it’s all good!
My Rating: 9/10
What to read next: The next two books in this series are Eldest and Brisingr with a fourth book to be released soon!

At last, Miranda is the life of the party: all she had to do was die. Elevated and adopted by none other than the reigning King of the Mantle of Dracul, Miranda goes from high school theater wannabe to glamorous royal fiend overnight. Meanwhile, her reckless and adoring guardian angel, demoted to human guise as the princess’ personal assistant, has his work cut out for him with the Master’s Death Day gala fast approaching. Can Zachary save his girl’s soul and redeem himself before all hell arrives, quite literally, on their castle’s doorstep? In alternating points of view, vampire Miranda and angel Zachary navigate a cut-throat eternal aristocracy as they play out a dangerous-and often darkly hilarious-love story for the ages
I’ve only recently finished this book. I got it 2 days ago. I just couldn’t put it down! It’s a once off book so the whole story is in this book. It’s a serious Romeo and Juliet story, but at the same time it’s a whole new concept. If you like Twilight you will love this book! It’s a lovely book but the only thing I would say is that I don’t think the majority of the male population will like it. There’s a lot of lovey-doveyness and I’m not sure if the macho-men will appreciate it. (But if you do, more power to ya!)
Downside: At the start I felt that the author didn’t make the transition between real life and fantasy very smoothly. She didn’t explain why things happened very well and you become confused for a while. But that’s the only bad thing I have to say!
P.S: I very almost cried at one point so be warned!

When sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird gets Marked as a fledgling vampire she must join the House of Night school where she will train to become an adult vampire. That is, if she makes it through the Change. But Zoe is no ordinary fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the Goddess Nyx and discovers her amazing new power to conjure the elements: earth, air, fire, water and spirit. When Zoey discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look within herself to embrace her destiny – with a little help from her new vampire friends.
I found this book great to start with. Easy to read and a good story-line. The characters are very well thought out, all with their own background and personalities. And there are some good points but you soon realise that they are repeated over and over again. Everything is going great then she has a fight with her friends, she is torn between a couple of guys and then she makes up with her friends and then she realises that she loves all the guys for different reasons! At one point she is going out with three guys at once!
The vampire part of the book is all well and good but it’s the parts where the authors are trying to be realistic that they fail. This continues through-out the whole series and even though some of the guys change, the scenario stays the same. So the bottom line is: Good fantasy plot but unless you don’t mind the main character being incredibly indecisive about most things then I wouldn’t go for this book.
